I was working for John Maxwell at his cmnapoy, INJOY, organizing his conferences. At his church (Skyline Church) the opening of Children's Pastor became available. I was serving as a volunteer as they did a national search for their new CP. I decided I wanted to apply (mind you, this was a church of 4500 with a nationally recognized leader, I had never been a CP before, I didn't have any real experience in KidMin and I had a new wife to support   but I knew I was called to children's ministry). I went to the executive pastor and asked him to give me 6 months. If he didn't like what I was doing, he could let me go then & there. He agreed, I quit at INJOY to be paid almost nothing giving children's pastoring a try for 6 months, with the hope that they kept me on longer.  They did. That was over 20 years ago and I'm still 100% committed to children's & family ministry.
